Candidate Watch 2005:

 School Board Candidate Introduces Himself...

     September 2, 2005

ENN invited all candidates for town council, mayor and school board to make a statement, regardless whether they were running unopposed or were in a race. Below is Bob Homan's statement. He is unopposed as are all school board candidates. Homan has been a huge supporter of Eatonville schools for many years.

What Bob Homan has to Say

Hi! I would like to introduce myself, my name is Bob Homan and I’m running for Eatonville School District Position #2.  This is a four year term and I’m looking forward to the job ahead of me!

I will tell you a few things about myself. First of all I grew up in Lynnwood Washington and graduated from Lynnwood High school Class of ’79. I moved out on my own and went directly into Edmonds Community College where I was working on prerequisites for my Engineering Degree and played some baseball while I was at it. I eventually decided before beginning my third year at the U that Engineering wasn’t for me, and began persuing a career in the Fire Service, which I eventually attained. During that time I met the love of my life, Mary, and dove head long into marrying her 1 ½ after we met.

I have been in the Fire service for 23 years and some change total, 20 years professionally.  I currently work for the Renton Fire Department.  I am a firefighter/EMT, I work on the ladder company and am on the Hazardous Materials team which I’ve been on for 12 years. Along with my normal duties of Fire Suppression activities , EMS, Fire Prevention and numerous Public Relations Activities, I am currently the Haz-Mat Team leader and have some budgeting and administrative responsibilities along with  scheduling of the personnel on our shift. Since just before 9/11 I have spent time getting certified as a Department of Justice – Weapons of Mass Destruction- instructor and currently teach numerous classes in this field.

I’ve have lived in the Eatonville Area for 10 years, I have been married for 18 years to Mary, and am a proud father of two kids, Cameron a freshman at EHS, and Abbey a 7th grader at EMS.  We have 5 acres where we enjoy 1 horse (34 yrs. Old), 8 dogs (Border Collies-my wife’s) and currently 9 sheep.

I have been involved with the schools ever since we moved here in one way or another. I started off as a member of the WES PTA and quickly became their treasurer.  The next step was the WES PTA President.  I have served on the District Facilities Committee (Co-chair), the previous 3 Bond Committees’ (Co-chair), exceptional misconduct Committee, and most recently the BEAP committee Chair.  I have been the EMS knowledge bowl coach for 2 years where the kids have won 1 Varsity Championship and 1 JV Championship. I had the pleasure to be an Assistant Coach for the EMS football team last year and have been a coach for various sports within EYSA for at least 8 years. I have participated in the Relay-for-Life Cancer walk, and am proud to say that I will be inducted into the Eatonville Lions on September 1st.

Now, why am I running for School Board?  Very simply because I like Kids  and I like being involved in the Community and Education.  I believe that successful schools are the cornerstone of a flourishing and prosperous community. I also contend that our kids are our most important resource for a successful future.  As a School Board member it will be my goal to see that the District continues to improve our facilities by passing a bond, enabling our children to increase their educational experiences and enjoy being at a school they can be proud of!  I feel that I will be representing all 2000+ kids in our district and want to do what’s best for the majority.  It will be my responsibility to listen to my constituents, parents, kids, administrators, teachers and staff and make the best decisions with my other board members on what’s  best for the the District!

I am looking forward to meeting new people and hearing what you have to say, and looking forward to a partnership with the Town to continue to make Eatonville an AWESOME place to live and bring up kids!
