October 24, 2006: Newly crowned Daffodil Princess, lovely and spontaneously fun, Gabrielle Baldwin with escort, Josh Schaub, greets well-wishers following her coronation in the Eatonville High School Library. Gabrielle assumes the crown from outgoing Daffodil Princess Sarra Schlegel and will represent Eatonville during the Daffodil festivities in 2007.

Lovely Sarra Schlegel has served Eatonville well as Daffodil Princess for the past year. Last week she passed her crown to the 2007 incoming princess Gabrielle Baldwin, pictured above. In a break with tradition Sarra was escorted down the aisle by her dad, Dean Schlegel.

At the start of the Daffodil Princess coronation ceremony October 24, Eatonville Schools Superintendent Ray Arment presented MC John Bratholm with the Carl Baswell Medal for his tireless volunteer efforts in support of schools and kids of the greater Eatonville area. Carl Baswell supplied Arment with a number of the beautiful medals he received as an avid Volksmarcher in the German tradition, walking twenty kilometers every weekend.
The medal's namesake is eighty-three years old, and until recent years was an ardent international skier as well. While in his late seventies, Baswell's neck and back were broken two years apart during skiing accidents. Arment has found the perfect use for the medals, bestowing them upon individuals who have contributed in unique ways to the betterment of the school district and the community. Congratulations, John!

Beautiful flowers brought a touch a sunshine to the festivities along with the sparkles on the girl's dresses, around their necks and on their ears. It was a treat to see the young women dressed up and the handsome young men escorts in their tuxedos.
The theme this year is "Daffodils and All That Jazz."

Princess Hopefuls Have their Moment
in the Spotlight...

All five Daffodil Princess hopefuls were lovely, poised and articulate. Here they await the nerve wracking session of questions and answers. Left to right: Jenae Zemla, Mercede Apgar, Ila Schactler, Gabrielle Baldwin and Breanna Roos.

Intermission Entertainment...

Becky Rowe opened the musical selections...

...Followed by Chelan Lundquist...

...And Cheyenne Splan.  All three of the singers knocked the socks off the crowd with their powerful, emotional performances. In a word, "Awesome!"

Erika and Dad John Bratholm Wait
 for the Judge's Decision...

Young cutie Erika Bratholm visited her dad, MC John Bratholm, and kept him company onstage during the intermission while all waited with baited breath for the announcement of Eatonville's 2007 Daffodil Princess. Bratholm has been master of ceremonies for the princess event forever. As always he brought down the house many times with his sly, dry wit and irreverent quips.

Erika Rewards her Daddy...

Erika shows her love for Daddy with a big hug and kiss. A touching moment that helped break the tension of the long wait for the princess to be named.

Candidates and Escorts ...

During the intermission the dazzling and smart young women waited along with their escorts for the big moment. The escorts, in no particular order, were: Christopher Gregersen, Blaine McNicol, Bryson Merrill, Josh Schaub and Beau Byers.

Finally the Moment Arrived and Gabrielle is Crowned Eatonville's 2007 Princess...

It wasn't easy being a judge during the princess selection. There was a long intermission as they worked to make their choice. It was a difficult judgment because all the girls would have been great representative of the town. However, the choice of Gabrielle was a popular one with the people who attended the event.
Gabrielle immediately asked the audience to acknowledge the other participants, showing her poise and caring nature. Everyone got a huge hand.
