by Police Chief Jim Lewis

August 24 – A 20-year-old Spanaway man and his 20-year-old girlfriend were arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The suspects were observed parked in Smallwood Park which is closed after dark. As the officer approached the driver’s side window he could smell the odor of burning marijuana and saw in plan view a pot pipe sitting on the opened glove box door. Both suspects were arrested. The female was asked if she had any more marijuana or had she smoked it all? She replied there was more under her seat. A search incident to arrest revealed a film canister with marijuana inside. Both suspects were cited and later released to the woman’s mother.

August 25 – A 55-year-old Eatonville man reported someone had stolen a 9mm pistol from his residence. A possible suspect has been identified.

August 25 – A 27-year-old Eatonville woman reported someone stole her son’s bike from her carport.

August 27 – A 21-year-old U.S. Army deserter from Ft. Lewis was arrested for identity theft, forgery, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful issuance of bank checks. The suspect ordered six pizzas from a local business and paid for them with a stolen check. The business contacted the police and responding officers verified the check was stolen. The officer then proceeded to the residence, a duplex in the 100 block of Alder Street. The occupants of the residence lied to responding officers saying the suspect was not there. The suspect was later found hiding in the bathroom. The suspect admitted he had written the stolen check and said he had five or six more of the stolen checks inside his backpack. The backpack was searched and the checks recovered. During the search drug paraphernalia was also discovered. The suspect was later transported and booked into PC (Pierce County) Jail. The U.S. Army was notified of his arrest.

August 28 – A 48-year-old Eatonville man was arrested for DUI and DWLS. The suspect was stopped for defective equipment. When contacted the arresting officers could smell the strong odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle. The suspect was advised of the reason for the stop and he immediately got out of his vehicle. The suspect was so unsteady on his feet he had to use his vehicle for support. A records check showed that his license was suspended for child support enforcement. When asked how much he had to drink he told the officer, "Probably too much." The suspect refused to take a field sobriety test. He was arrested and transported to the police department for a BAC. The results were .166 and .145. He was cited and later transported to his residence and released.

August 30 – A 36-year-old Standwood man was charged with assaulting a 30-year-old Graham man. The Graham man was hired as a DJ for a local bar. When the Graham man said he was playing the last song for the night the suspect flipped him off. When asked why, the suspect apparently headbutted the victim and then knocked him off a barstool. The suspect continued to hit and kick the victim until pulled away by the bartender and other customers. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of the police.

August 31 – A 39-year-old Eatonville man was arrested for forgery and theft. A 59-year-old Eatonville man reported that the suspect, who lives with him, had stolen three checks from him. He said the suspect cashed two of the checks at his bank and had forged his signature. The suspect was later arrested at the residence and he admitted to stealing the checks and forging the signature.
