Point Sentinel Fourth Quarter Stops Cruisers 48-20
by
Donny O'Brien
Anyone going to the Steilacoom vs. Eatonville game
last Friday night knew they were in for some great high school football
action. Steilacoom fans were celebrating their Homecoming. On the field, a
battle between two of the three undefeated 3-0 teams in the Nisqually League
was about to be waged. The victor would be the odds on favorite to upset
defending league champion Orting High School for the Nisqually League Crown.
A long line of fans from both teams would wait twenty minutes, or more, at
times to gain admission to this contest. And, for three quarters it looked
as though it could be anyone's ball game.
Eatonville took the upper hand early in the second
quarter. David Hamilton turned the corner and slipped into the end-zone from
the Sentinel 9 yard line. Hamilton's PAT kick was good. Steilacoom answered
that score when Danny Wilm broke 16 yards to the right side to put the
Sentinels on the board. The PAT was good. The half would end with the game
tied at 7-7.
Steilacoom would score first in the second half.
Eatonville answered with an 88-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Mettler to
Hamilton. The PAT kick was good. Steilacoom fought right back scoring on a
34-yard run. The PAT was good. With 9:43 left to play in the fourth quarter,
Eatonville's Devin O'Rourke capped a 80-yard drive with a four yard shot up
the gut. Steilacoom blocked the PAT kick that would have tied the game at
21-21. Capitalizing on the momentum generated by the defensive play, the
Sentinels would put up 27 points against the Cruisers in the final 9 minutes
and 43 seconds of the game. 21 of those points would come in a 2 minute and
51 second tear that overwhelmed Eatonville turning a tight game into
Homecoming Sentinel fans won't soon forget.
The Cruisers play at home against the North Mason
Bulldogs Friday night at 7pm.

Junior
Cruisers, Orting Tie After Double Overtime
by
Donny O'Brien
"It's a game they'll be able to use for
reference in the future," said EPW running back coach Steve Rose after
Saturday's tie game with the Orting Animals. The Junior Cruisers went into
Saturdays game looking for their fourth win of the season. They missed by
inches.
Eatonville took the upper hand in the first quarter
when Jeremy Leonard capped a 68-yard drive with a four-yard run off tackle.
Aaron Edwards added the PAT run. Orting tied the game on their next series
early in the second quarter. From there on, this would be a game marked by
great defensive stands by both teams. At
the end of regulation the teams went into Kansas City Overtime. Eatonville
won the toss and elected to defend. Eatonville's defense stopped the animal
running attack cold with some outstanding tackles by Curtis Stivens and Levi
Smith one the first two plays of the series. The entire Junior Cruiser
defensive line would make the next two tackles for Animal losses.
On two consecutive carries Leonard moved Eatonville
to inside the one-yard line. It was on the one that the Junior Cruisers
jumped offside and were pushed back to the six. On the next play they
jumped, again moving the ball back to the 11. Unable to score on the next
two plays the teams went into a second KCO. Once again both teams defenses
stopped their opposition ending the game in a 7-7 tie.
The Junior Cruiser JV team, who are 1-0-1 will play
Orting again this Wednesday at Orting High School at 5pm.
The Junior Cruisers Varsity will be back in action
looking for their fourth win Saturday, the 12th, when they take on the
Tacoma Panthers at Mann Middle School in Lakewood. The Game Starts at
11:30am.

by
Donny O'Brien
The EHS girls soccer team is off to its best start in school history.
The Cruisers sixth victims of the season were the Chimacum Cowboys.
The Cruisers had eight different players score in this match. Anna Benton
scored her 6th goal of the season in the third minute of the game. Carah
Carlman ripped the net one minute later. Senior Katelyn Goetze scored her
5th goal of the season in the eleventh minute of the half.
Coach Rollie Arthur said, "The prettiest
goal of the game came from a crossed ball by Carah (Carlman) to Tara Foust
who headed to the far post in the 19th minute." The Cruisers went on to
score two more goals in the half: one from Goetze and the last by Jenny
Baker. Baker's goal, her 9th of the season, hit the net with two minutes to
go in the half.
In the second half the Cruisers got one more goal
from Carlman. Three new players found the net as well in the second
half. Stephanie Stead had her first goal of the season, followed by Michelle
Douglas, and Sarah Steiner. The Cruisers finished off the Cowboys 10-0.
