Sheriff’s Report Oct. 19 – 31, 2002
compiled by Penny Chambers
Theft/Larceny –
Oct. 19: A 52-year-old Eatonville male put $720 cash in his checkbook
register, placing it in a drawer at his home, to use on an upcoming
vacation. The next day the victim left his home on 53rd Ave. E.
for approximately four hours, leaving his brother in law and his brother in
law’s girlfriend, a Bellingham woman, alone in his home. Two days later
the victim discovered his cash was missing. The man suspected that his
brother in law’s girlfriend had taken the cash, who denied doing so to
sheriff’s deputies.
Destruction/Vandalism of
Property – Oct. 27: A female resident of 64th Ave. E. in
Eatonville heard an impact to the south bedroom wall of her house while in
the adjacent bathroom. Deputies found a bullet hole in the wall seven feet
above floor level and a bullet fragment on the 50-year-old woman’s bedroom
floor. Deputies later contacted a neighbor who said a hunter had fired two
shots at a deer in the pasture, about 200 yards southwest of the home. It
appeared to deputies that the line from the point where the deer had been
taken was consistent to the point where the bullet entered the house and
that the bullet fragment found in the bedroom had been deflected prior to
hitting the residence.
Neighborhood Dispute
– Oct. 27: A property dispute between two residents of 366th
St. E. in Eatonville erupted when one neighbor pulled another neighbor’s
mailbox out of the ground. The sheriff’s deputy found the mailbox not to
be damaged, but its owner asserted that pulling it out of the ground was a
federal offense. Upon questioning the suspect neighbor, he admitted to the
deputy that he had pulled it from the ground, explaining that he was careful
not to damage the mailbox. He removed it as it he believes the box is on his
property and is in the way of his fence line. The deputy told both men that
not being a surveyor, he was unable to make a judgment about their property
lines and that if it was determined that the mailbox was pulled from the
ground for malicious reasons the incident could be considered vandalism.
Violation of Court Order
(Protection) – Oct. 28: A 44-year-old woman living on Jensen Rd. E. in
Eatonville had petitioned for a restraining order against her neighbor, a
29-year-old woman. The
protection order was made mutual between the two women, prohibiting either
party from surveilling the other. The 44-year-old alleges that the
29-year-old is surveilling her, using a video camera placed in a travel
trailer on the 29-year-old’s property. The 29-year-old maintains that the
camera is pointed at the common driveway they both share. The investigating
officer found that the camera was not visible from the 44-year-old’s
living room; he had to go out into the driveway in order to see the window
from which the camera records and it did appear to be pointed at the
driveway. The case has been referred to Pierce County prosecutors.
Motor Vehicle Theft
– Oct. 28: Unknown suspect(s) attempted to steal two trucks from a
residence on SR 161 E. in Eatonville. Gaining entrance by breaking the
passenger side door lock, the suspects attempted to start a green 1992 Chevy
truck, breaking the ignition cylinder. A stereo and speakers were stolen,
causing extensive damage to the dashboard. The suspects also attempted to
steal a red, 1991 Mazda truck from the property, damaging the truck’s
ignition cylinder and column. There was no evidence left behind other than
potentially recoverable fingerprints found on the first truck.
Motor Vehicle Theft
– Oct. 29: A 65-year-old male living on Lebor Devor Rd. E. in Eatonville
received a phone call from the Yelm Police Dept. inquiring about the man’s
wife’s car being involved in a “gas run-out” in Yelm. The victim went
out to his garage and found his 1986 dark blue, two door, Chevy Camero
missing. The vehicle still has not been recovered.
Burglary/Forced Entry
– Oct. 31: A sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglar alarm at a home
on 271st St. Ct. E. in Graham. They found that the rear garage
door had been kicked open. The deputies entered the living part of the
residence through the garage door and found no one in the house. They then
were informed by dispatch that the resident was on his way home, being
alerted that his alarm system had gone off. Upon his arrival, the resident
didn’t immediately notice any property missing. There were smudged shoe
prints on the garage door and a canvas duffle bag had been left outside of
the garage, which was placed into evidence. The case is inactive pending
further leads.
Mail Box Theft –
Oct. 31: Mail, including tickets from Ticket Master and three pair of
men’s black cotton pants, was taken from a box on 71st Ave. Ct.
E. in Eatonville. Also on that day mail was stolen from a box on 85th
Ave. S. (near 336th) and from a box on 337th St. S.
(near 94th).
