Over $45,000 Raised at Richelle Heacock Benefit
Photos and Story by Bob Walter

At the entrance to the high school commons, a tapestry of donor signatures adorned a banner displaying an inspirational, Biblical quote. Organizers estimate that as of Monday, January 25, the amount raised from the combined event has topped $45,000, with donations continuing to come in!

The generous outpouring of support for injured Eatonville High School graduate Richelle Heacock was evident in many ways Saturday at EHS. Here in the hallway between the commons and the gym, baked goods of all kinds tempted the well-wishers.

Volunteers preparing the Richelle Heacock Fund dinner and raffle provided a huge assortment of raffle items. The event concluded with a live auction.

People attending the benefit event for Richelle Heacock and her family last Saturday night browsed the many items to be awarded in a raffle drawing. Next door in the commons, hundreds more enjoyed a spaghetti dinner.

"Heal by Helping...

The Heacock's live in Ashford, and are graduates from Eatonville High School. I just read the last journal from her parents. I can remember how much a card means and uplifts parents and patient in this trying time. It would be great to cover Richelle's wall with the many blessings of good cheer, hope and smiles from all the people whom the Heacock family knows, and those the family doesn't know.
I can also remember how a card with a surprise in it helped with the burden of expense...coffee cards, meals cards, gas money...this is a time that the family needs to be uplifted and carried... as I remember just one less thing to worry about.
The stress is over whelming and the worry too much to express. This is a way the community can heal by helping.
Call this The Card Train of Hope and Love...to wrap the Heacock family in many blessings. Also the Caring Bridge has a great web site and a way to help the family
CaringBridge / richelleheacock / My Story.
Hope this helps. My card goes in the mail tomorrow morning with something special enclosed for the family..

Monday night, Richelle Heacock was on her way home from college to be with her parents for Deputy Kent Mundell's memorial when she was involved in a car accident that could have easily taken her life. Deputy John Heacock and his wife, Peggy, are celebrating the fact that their youngest daughter is alive, but report that she did suffer a spinal injury that will most likely leave her paralyzed from the waist down. Richelle is determined to work hard through her rehabilitation and recover fully from her injuries.
In the meantime, the Sheriff's Department and numerous others who know, and love, the Heacock family would like to retrofit/remodel their current home to make sure it is capable of supporting this inspiring young woman consider it our own version of "Extreme Home Makeover." We have a tremendous community who wants, and needs, to help do something positive in light of what has happened to the Lakewood Police Department and the PCSD/Mountain Detachment over the past two months.
Volunteers from the Mountain Detachment and Department of Emergency Management are organizing the many community volunteers toward a common vision of remodeling John and Peggy's house over the next 4-5 weeks. The first volunteer organizing meeting set for tonight, 5 p.m. at the Eatonville Community Center (305 Center Street West). The Pierce County Guild will be providing the refreshments through the Eatonville Bakery and Jebinos Restaurant.
We are asking any interested volunteers to either attend the meeting tonight or send an e-mail with your name, contact information and what skills you can bring. The e-mail is heacockfund@gmail.com and volunteer coordinators will respond. There are several General Contractors interested in helping move this from vision to completion and now we are seeking any volunteers from our County family who wish to help. We need all skill sets from professional construction, concrete skills, carpentry, cooking, ability to organize or manage things, ability to work a shovel, hammer, etc and etc.. If you want to be a part of this positive community undertaking, let us know what you can do and we will find a place for you.
So, if interested, either attend the meeting on Friday or send an e-mail to the address noted above. Financial donations are also being accepted through Tapco Credit Union or First Community Bank in Eatonville.

(Publisher's Note: A Web site has been set up through Harborview's Caring Bridge. For Richelle's story, updates and a guest book can be found at CaringBridge / richelleheacock / Welcome.)
