Euphoria reigns for the Lady Cruisers at they hold their State Championship trophy high!

November 19, 2005, 7:54 p.m.: Eatonville Varsity Soccer Team wins top place in state. From Lakewood: "Soccer Mom" Stephanie Schlegel reports: "The girls were awesome!" Stephanie said the stands were "full" of Eatonville supporters. She also said the game was a "nail biter" because the other team, East Valley, from Yakima, was "tied" with Eatonville at one point too  near the end of the game.
With three minutes left to play in the championship game the Lady Cruisers broke the tie and
pulled off the win they fought hard for, and deserved, proving to one and all that Eatonville's young women are not only beautiful, but powerful, athletes. The Lady Cruisers are coached by Rollie Arthur, a retired, but dedicated, Eatonville High teacher. For more of Tony's photos please see www.picturetrailcom/ehssports

     September 3, 2005

The Eatonville High School Football team started off Coach George Fairhart's 13th season as coach with a big win over 3A school, Fife, with a 37-13 win at home. Fife initially gave the Cruisers some trouble finding room to run down the sides, but the defense buckled down and kept them to only two scores.
Meanwhile "the boys in blue" did a little running of their own with a three back attack of  Dan O'Brien, Ben Tugend and Clay Kistenamcher that at times seemed to run right through and around the Trojan players as if they were standing in place.
When the Cruisers weren't running, their platoon system of quarterbacks seemed to find wide receiver  Jake Patterson open often deep behind the Fife defenders. On defense again Kistenmacher and O'Brien made a huge impact and one of the smaller guys, Ross Lewis had some key stops along with a late fourth quarter interception to seal the game.

Does it Look Like a Fumble?

Bobby Sandor puts a hit on the Fife quarterback that jars the ball loose, but the referees rule the player down instead of a fumble.

       October 25, 2004

The Number 1 ranked Nisqually League leading Eatonville Cruisers found themselves in a tight match up last Friday night against the Foster Bulldogs. Two Blair Haifley touchdowns and extra points gave the Cruisers the edge in this 7-14 defensive battle. The Cruisers were plagued with penalties through out the contest that cost them points, big gains and field position.
In the first quarter a 27 yard Adam Boster to Dan O'Brien swing pass that found it's way into the end zone was called back for an illegal block in the back.
The Cruisers took the lead in the second quarter. A Cruiser drive that featured a clutch first down catch by Jake Patterson, a key 20 plus yard gain to the one yardline by Dan O'Brien and a seven yard blast by Haifley put the Cruisers on the board first.
Foster would score in the closing seconds of the half on a 18-yard pass that sent the teams into the locker rooms tied at seven. In the third quarter the Cruisers took the lead when Haifley rambled in once again from seven yards out.
The Bulldogs mounted a last minute drive in the fourth quarter. With about a minute to play Patterson stepped up big with an interception to end Foster's hopes of a score. The Cruiser defense held them in the game. David Body, Danny St. Clair, Brian Haifley, Clay Kistenmacher, Ross Lewis, Patterson and O'Brien all delivered hits that had Bulldogs getting up slow. O'Brien with 106 yards in 13 carries was the game's leading ground gainer.
The Cruisers travel to Orting this Friday night to meet the Cardinals. A match up of the Nisqually League's two power houses, this game will determine a champion. More important it will decide the seating in district post season play.

Happy Cruiser Coaches...

Cruisers Hold First Place in Nisqually League...

Dan O'Brien, Number 40, heads up the middle for a Cruiser first down

     October 18, 2004

Eatonville Cruisers won their last home game 31-20. It was the first time EHS had beaten Steilacoom since 2000. Dan O'Brien lead the scoring with two rushing touchdowns. Adam Boster and Blair Haifley also rushed for a touchdown each. Boster also had a 31 yard field goal and Haifley kicked 2 PATs. David Body caught a Boster pass for a two point conversion.
Orting lost to Cascade Christian Saturday night. The loss moved the Cruisers into sole possession of first place in the Nisqually league. As of Friday night Eatonville was ranked 10th in state at the AA level three positions behind Orting. The Orting loss will no doubt move the Cruisers higher in the rankings.
The Cruisers will finish the rest of the regular season on the road. Next week the Cruisers will play at Foster High School. Finishing the season the following week Oct 29th, at Orting. That game will certainly decide the Nisqually league title and the first birth for post season play.

 EYSA Soccer League Opens

The orange-clad goalie for the green team extends her foot to protect the goal from an opposing team member hoping to score, during the first Saturday of play in Eatonville Youth Sports Association's (EYSA) nine-week, fall soccer season. Proud parents and volunteer coaches were calling out instructions and encouragement to the young players from the sidelines in their first games, which were refereed by Eatonville High School girl's soccer team members.
The youngest teams, comprised of pre-kindergarten kids, took the field first, followed by the kindergarten-age teams, then grades 1-2, and grades 3-4. No score is kept in competition by the youngest teams, when the fundamentals of the game are just being learned. The kids play with intensity that is evident on their faces. Occasional minor injuries are inevitable - a sprained finger, a bruised knee and a ball in the face, kicked at close range, among the injuries occurring during the first day's games. The children are covered by league insurance paid for with a $40 entry fee. Thanks to soccer mom Cindy Nidever for providing information.

The gleaming blue bleachers at B. W. Lyon field stand empty on Labor Day, 2004. Soon, the newly-painted stands will rock with thundering fans once again. And now they'll have more to be proud of. A week and a half ago, Eatonville High School students Mackenzie King, Stephanie Stead and some friends were chatting about what they might do as a project to build school pride. Stephanie, a junior, suggested painting the bleachers.
With support from their parents, siblings and school staff, the students took to the task with enthusiasm. Stephanie and Mackenzie started calling friends, and soon the project and its team took shape.  Mackenzie's brothers, Skylar and Dylan, along with Curtis Mallot, were among the volunteers cleaning, scraping and prepping the surface of the bleachers. Stephanie's sisters, Shelly, Brianne and Jessica, pitched in to help paint.
The rest of the painting crew - mostly juniors - included Brent Kerr, Andrew Heinz, Jared Gee, Angie Hall, Abby Benton, Jami Purdon and Jenny Baker. In all, the kids put 13 gallons of Cruiser Blue on those bleachers, a volunteer project for which they can all be proud.
Some of them gave six and a half hours of their Labor Day Weekend, making the stadium look great for the Cruiser football team's home opener against Chimacum Friday, September 10th. These are the kinds of acts which give us hope about the future.
