Just About Everything You Want to
Know About Greg Wilder...

October 18, 2003
During the candidate's
forum sponsored by ENN October 14, questions were raised about Interim
Public Works Director Greg Wilder's qualifications for the job. Wilder's

A Funny Thing Happened at the
Forum II... Public Works
Director Wrongly Disparaged by Candidate
by Dixie A. Walter
October 16, 2003
ENN
sponsored a candidate's forum at the Eatonville Middle School Library
October 14. Although the turnout was light the room was filled. The
forum, moderated by Tim Patterson with Strategic Portfolios, was held in two
parts. School board candidates Mike Powell and Kirk Heinz answered questions
from the audience.
Next came most of the town council candidates. Cliff
Murphy and Councilman Mike Gallagher did not attend. Murphy was out of
the state. Bobbi Allison, Vern
Fisher, Bruce Rath and Bob Walter all attended. There were many good citizen
questions and good candidate answers.
The question that seemed to stand out in most
minds was one asked by John Sparrow from the Dispatch. This question
points out that Greg Wilder, Interim Public Works Director, was fired from a
job in La Center, Washington. And, as was said repeatedly by candidate Rath,
Wilder was also "let go" from his position in Issaquah,
Washington.
*Bruce Rath:... Alls (sic) I know is they let him go up there at
Issaquah when he only had one year to go for a retirement. Now I don’t
know, that tells me there was a big problem somewhere. Usually if you have
good employees you hang on to’em right to the very end. You don’t
cut’em loose with all the experience and everything. Rath
Challenges ENN to Investigate Wilder
After the forum Candidate Rath sought me out and
asked me to get to the truth about Greg Wilder, and I told him I
certainly would do that. Rath said, with a smile, "I'll be hitting
ENN..." The next day I questioned Wilder about the accusations.
He was extremely candid, saying he was fired from La Center after three
months on the job. According to Wilder he "would not
compromise" his "professional ethics." Wilder also pointed
out the fact that Eatonville knew he had lost a previous job when they hired
him. He also emphatically avowed that he was not terminated from his
position in Issaquah.

Re: Letter to the Editor / Water Supply Issues and Interim Public Works
Director Qualifications
Dear People,
I was raised in a family that believed and honored “public service”
as a calling. My father served the Native American community as a
physician for almost 30 years. And then went on to serve the State of
Washington as an Administrative Surgeon for the Department of Correction for
another ten. Those of my brothers and sisters that chose a professional
calling did so with public service in mind… one brother has been an
educator within the Native American community in Washington for 35 years and
I choose to serve local government as my calling.
Elements of the Eatonville community have
elected to target my qualifications, my advice, and my decisions as they
relate to the management and oversight of Public Works… specifically those
relating to water capacity.
They have questioned my motives and qualifications.
Although I should know better (particularly during a politically
active season) than to respond to demeaning allegations, I nevertheless am
not going to ignore the voice of my conscience.
I have found myself occasionally apologizing for being too direct and
too defined, but I will not apologize or soften my edge regarding issues and
matters I know with certainty to be right about!
